It may sound contradictory to all what those who go on and on about persona development.. But i am really saying it on purpose.. Do not follow your dreams..
Imagine this scene…
An actress standing as she receives her first Oscar award for best actress category.. She is 3 something.. Looking as good as a 40K$ because that’s how much this night costed her..
She stands above the crowd and say..
They told me i can not .. and i did.. I am telling every little girl sitting in her room tonight.. Follow your dream.. Dream on and never give up.. It will happen one day.
Now imagine this scene
A 19 something girl sitting at her parents basement watching the oscars while eating popcorn and diet coke.. And she gets all motivated and decides to become an actress , it’s always been her dream..
Now imagine this breakdown of facts;
The actress been in the industry since she was 9 years old.
She started a s a baby model – to commercials- to teen modeling- to daytime soap opera’s to cable network cameos to supporting actress in low budget movies to the hot chick if a supporting character in a rom com to whatever blah blah.. Up to where she is today.
- She can be easily diagnosed as a bulimic or anorexic..
- Tried drugs at least a couple of times
- Could be considered an alcoholic at some point in her life.
- Been dumped by at least a dozen boys
- Dumped at least half a dozen of boys
- Is payed well but never enough or as much as a male actor.
- She is thirty something and single because she needs to be hot.
- She went to film school, acting school and a trillion auditions.
- She has both academic and real time theater experience.
In simple words,
She is a qualified woman who went through crap to reach the point of momentary success.
Is she qualified to advise … though!?
And now this 19 years old is taking on her dream…
Is she qualified, does she have the skills, the intelligence, the right people, the right timing , the wrong budget just to include her name as an extra at a scene that may or may not change her life forever!
I know my advice may sound out of place and to some extent depressing.. But trust my words.. I am qualified to advice.
Not because i am a successful person, but because i am not really.
I am qualified because i analyze.. Take calculated risks and think too much i even volunteer to think for other people.
The best career advice i could give to anyone is stick to what you are good at, and make sure you become good at multiple things.. So good that you are replaceable, the moment you are easily replaceable for a task you are successful.
You are no longer an asset for a company, you do the job well and right. And deliver the best outcome , and no one owns your soul and no one can control you.. You can be gone in a second.. Gone as in free !
Follow your dreams only if you are capable of doing so measurably…. Only if you are well equipped, only if you have what it takes from you , from your family from your friends !
listen to what people say, people with careers in that field ,.. What they say about you over and over is the truth… follow that truth!
